Tribal Council

The mission of the Kootenai Tribal Council is to honor the Covenant, promote the general welfare of Tribal citizens, preserve Ktunaxa traditions and customs, and ensure that Tribal citizens and future generations enjoy the power to exercise all rights and powers vested in the Tribe.

The Constitution of the Kootenai Tribe establishes the Tribal Council as the governing body of the Tribe. The Tribal Council consists of nine (9) members: including a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Tribal Council is empowered to make decisions for the Tribe as authorized by the Tribal Constitution.

These elected officials ensure that all legislative and executive functions of the Tribe are carried out. They sets the agenda for the development of programs, activities and economic resources that uphold the Covenant, protect and restore Ktunaxa Territory, and benefit Tribal citizens and their families.
